Forum: "The Real Africa?" by Dr. George Whiting, Professor of Horticulture
Dr. George Whiting, Professor of Horticulture, shared his expertise, enthusiasm, and his beautiful photographs from his trips to Africa, introducing the varied and exotic species of flora and fauna found there. Dr. Whiting’s interests center on animals that have not been exposed to tourism. His presentation included slides of the grasslands in Kenya and Zambia, as well as photographs of animals and villages.AAL Continuing Education Committee presented a Tour of the Wagner Free Institute of Science

Cathy Weng of the Bibliographic Services Department spoke of her experience as a Serials Cataloging Cooperative Training Program (SCCTP) trainer and her recent trip to China. The picture above featuring Terra-Cotta Soldiers was taken at the Museum of Qin Terra-Cotta Warriors and Horses in Xi'an, China. Cathy co-presented a training workshop in Xi'an in the summer of 2002.

Anne Harlow, of Reference and Information Services, gave a presentation about the International Association of Music Libraries. She spoke about the history and mission of the organization, and its important work in the preservation of and access to all kinds of music worldwide. Anne explained her work on the Outreach Committee of the organization. Her presentation not only included slides of the conferences in Perigueux, France, and in Berkeley, California, but AAL was also treated to musical examples from the Old World and the New World.

Charles H. E. Ault, Director of Production and Electronic Publishing and Assistant Director of Temple University Press, spoke about the Press, its relationship with the library, and the future of the book.Also at the meeting, Lisa Panzer of the Blitman Library and Brian Schoolar of the Zahn Library introduced the collections and services they offer.

Laila El Zein, Head of the Bibliographic Services Department, took the AAL on a guided tour of the newly constructed library in Alexandria, Egypt.
