In Fall 2010, the Temple University Libraries acquired the KIDSNET collection. It is a rich resource for the study of media and children, shifts in popular culture and attitudes, and the history of late 20th century communications.
KIDSNET (1984-2010) began as a project of the National Foundation for the Improvement of Education as the Clearinghouse of Information on Children's Radio and Television and obtained its own 501{c} 3 status as KIDSNET in 1985. Karen Jaffe was founder and Executive Director.
The mission of KIDSNET was to use information and consumer demand to increase the quantity and quality of audio, video, radio and TV programs that were appropriate for children and youth. The primary product for which KIDSNET became famous was its KIDSNET database, categorizing and describing over 20,000 programs. KIDSNET also produced influential syndicated columns, newsletters, bulletins, and educators' study guides.
