At the Blockson Collection: A Conversation with Charles L. Blockson and W. Cody Anderson

Wed, Oct 16, 2019 | 2:00 pm

In partnership with the Special Committee on 400 Years of African American History, 1619 to 2019, and the Mayor’s Commission on African and Caribbean Immigrant Affairs, please join us for a conversation between radio personality W. Cody Anderson and the Blockson Collection’s Curator Emeritus Charles L. Blockson. They will discuss Mr. Blockson's life, career, and the people that he encountered on his journey to collect and preserve Black history and culture.

Their discussion will include little known information about Mr. Blockson’s collecting such as the hardships and disappointments he experienced, his travels to document the Underground Railroad, his activism, and the places and people he encountered and the lifelong relationships he developed. Other topics will include the Black History Committee, K. Leroy Irvis, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, Marian Anderson, and Rosa Parks.
