Find Micromaterials
Microforms (material on microfilm, microfiche, and microcards) in Paley Library are located on the Ground Floor of the library-- one floor below the level of the entrances.
The Diamond Catalog provides the film or fiche number for the journals, newspapers, dissertations, research collections and government documents that are kept in microform (e.g. The New York Times in microform is listed as "Micro- film Per. 2"). Sometimes, these numbers are the same as the print equivalent of the material, but the Item Location will indicate "Micro" in the Diamond Catalog.
Reader / printer / scanners for microfilm, microfiche, and microcards are available on the Ground Floor.
Most of the sets of periodical microfilm are in compact shelving arranged in sequence and are labeled with numbers beginning with PER. Some sets have been put in boxes on shelves above the cabinets for organizational reasons. The American Periodicals Series, a large set of 19th century publications, is located in a separate set of drawers near the service desk.
Microfiche are kept in compact storage drawers and are arranged by collection. The largest microfiche collection is the ERIC documents set. Microfiche collections for Government Documents are kept both in the compact storage cabinets and in separate file cabinets..
Sets of microcards are in the cabinets that preceed the microfiche.
There are indexes and finding aids for some of the larger micromaterial collections kept on the shelves behind the Service Desk arranged by their Micro number.
Micromaterials are difficult to find and to use. Do not hesitate to ask for help at the Service Desk. Service Desk hours for the Current Periodicals / Microforms area are generally the same as that of the library building itself.
