Print Documents in the Libraries
Networked printers are located in each of the Temple University Libraries (Ambler, SEAL, and Paley Libraries). At present, only black and white printing is available in the libraries.Print jobs may be directed to these printers from any library computer.
Payment depends on your current affiliation at Temple University:
Students currently enrolled at Temple and who have paid a technology fee as part of the enrollment (this would include staff who enroll in a course), have a "free" printing quota of 300 pages for the semester (calculated at the course start time - half year to accomodate professional schools).
Faculty and Staff (and students who have exhausted their "free" quota): Pay by cash or coin at 7 cents per page or with a Temple Diamond Dollars account. All Temple students, faculty, staff with a TUid card have a Diamond Dollars account associated with their TUid. Recent alumni (since 2005) with a TUId card also have accounts. This account will not have any cash value in it to start with whether one is a student, faculty, or staff.
See below for how to add value to your personal Diamond Dollars Account.
There are departmental Diamond Dollars accounts which can be created by transfer of department funds (JET) and issue of a separate non-id Diamond dollars card. These would be for staff or faculty use. These carry no printing quota.
- 1-4 credits 103 pages
- 5-8 credits 216 pages
- 9+ credits 300 pages
300 pages means 300 B&W 8 1/2 x 11 prints one-sided.
the quota renews to another 300 for the next semester.

Q. I want to take my information with me, but I want to save [trees/print quota/my peace of mind] or print on different paper at another location. What are my options?
A. The Libraries offer several alternatives to printing on a sheet of paper:
- Save to a file and take it with you. All Library computers are equipped with USB ports to enable saving to your personal flash drive documents, image files, html or .pdf pages from full-text journals, etc.
- You can save your document as a PDF file by selecting "docuPrinter" in the Print dialog.
- Nearly all databases have an "export" option that lets you save your results in a format you can use later.
- Of course, you can save directly from any office application.
- Email the information to yourself
- Diamond and nearly all databases allow you to send some or all of your search results, full-text files, images, etc. via email
- Almost any file you've saved or exported can be attached to an email message.
- Current Temple students, faculty, and staff can save to MyBackpack.
- First save the document(s) or file(s) to the desktop.
- Log into the Temple Portal linked from Temple's homepage.
- Click MyBackpack under TU applications, then "manage files" then "upload files."
- Use the Browse function in MyBackback to identify the files and upload them.
- You can then access these files the next time you log into TU Portal.
- Use Diamond AirPAC
- Search Diamond (the Libraries' catalog) from any Internet-enabled phone or PDA.
- Point your PDA or phone browser to http://diamond.temple.edu and click the "AirPAC" link
- All open areas of the Libraries are Temple Wireless Zones
- Phone browsers work anywhere you can text message
Q: How do I add value to my personal Diamond Dollars account.
A: Current Temple faculty, students, and staff may add value to their personal Diamond Dollars accounts
- online with a credit card through the secure Diamond Dollars website,
- in person at the Diamond Dollars Office on main campus, or at at any Bursar's Office, during their regular office hours
- or with cash at a value adder machine in the Tech Center on Main Campus.
Alumni and Guests:
Recent Temple alumni (since 2005) with a Temple University ID card and TUid number ordinarily have an existing Diamond Dollars account to which they may add value at the Diamond Dollars website, the Diamond Dollars Office on main campus, at any Bursar's Office, or at a value adder machine in the Tech Center.
Guests and those alumni who do not have a TUID may obtain a guest Diamond Dollars account card by inquiring at any library service desk. You will then need to add value to the account.

Q: I'm a faculty member at Temple - How can I charge printing (or Library photocopying) to my department?
A: You will need to create a departmental or grant-funded Diamond Dollars account. To do so (or to add value to an existing account) faculty and staff must send a Temple Journal Entry Transfer form (JET) for the initial (or replenishment) value to the Diamond Dollars Office, 1910 Liacouras Walk, Room 202, main campus. The JET must be signed by the responsible signature authority for the cost center to be charged.
The Diamond Dollars office will then create the necessary account and call/email you to pick up the card and the required log-sheet on which use is to be recorded for audit purposes.
Q: I need to print in full color, what should I do?
A: We advise you to save the files and print them out at home, or send them to networked color printers at the Tech Center on Main Campus. Color prints are not included in student's "free" quota and must be paid for with diamond Dollars at the Tech Center.
