BACKGROUND
 

Dr. Benjamin W. Barkas was a professional educator concerned with labor and adult education in Philadelphia from 1925 to the mid-1960s. The organizations in which his interest and effort were greatest were the Labor Education Association (LEA), 1943-1967; Temple University, 1943-1962; and the School District of Philadelphia Extension Division, 1941 1974.
