SCRC Researcher Account Frequently Asked Questions

The Special Collections Research Center (SCRC) is pleased to announce that we are now using a Special Collections Management system which will allow us to manage user registration and requests much more efficiently by allowing researchers to place reading room paging requests automatically from our library catalog and archival finding aids.  It will also allow instructors to identify and request materials to be used for class visits to the SCRC.

What is an SCRC Researcher Account?

Creating an SCRC Researcher Account will allow researchers to submit requests for items in the SCRC. Researchers will now be able to register and manage personal information and track requests from any computer using this account.  Previously, registration and requests were paper-based.

How will using the SCRC Researcher Account help make research easier in the SCRC?

Once researchers are registered, SCRC staff will be able to approve requests and retrieve materials more efficiently. Researchers can also track the progress of each request.

Researchers can also store all request information in their profile for future review of citation information regarding materials consulted in the SCRC and also place digitization orders.

Note: Requests for materials housed adjacent to the SCRC reading room will be retrieved when the patron arrives.

Will researchers be able to request manuscripts, books and other materials using their SCRS Researcher Account?

Yes. Books and periodicals housed in the SCRC can be found by searching The Diamond Catalog, Temple University Libraries’ online catalog. If an item in the catalog is located in the SCRC, the record in Diamond will display an option to request the materials.

Archival collections can also be found through the SCRC’s online Finding Aids. Once you find the Archival Collection you are looking for on our website, you can request boxes using the “Request” button.

You can also request to see materials and order duplications via our digitized collections.

Will instructors be able to request materials for their students to use for class visits?

Yes. Professors can set up class visits as “Events” within their SCRC Researcher accounts. Materials to be used during class visits can be managed separately from the instructor's personal research requests. The history of materials requested for a class will be stored and can be viewed for re-use.
