Book Talk and Signing with Cheryl Renée Gooch, Author of "Hinsonvilles Heroes: Black Civil War Soldiers of Chester County, Pennsylvania"

Join us at the Blockson Collection for an afternoon with Cheryl Renée Gooch, author of the newly published book Hinsonville’s Heroes: Black Civil War Soldiers of Chester County, Pennsylvania (Arcadia Publishing & the History Press, 2018). Dr. Gooch will discuss her book, which traces the stories of residents of Hinsonville, a free Black community, who fought for the Union.

Dr. Gooch is an academic leader and published scholar with a passion for cultural history and uncovering aspects of African American history that are lost or forgotten. She is the author of On Africa’s Lands: The Forgotten Stories of Two Lincoln Educated Missionaries in Liberia (Lincoln University Press, 2014), which chronicles the experiences of James Ralston Amos and Thomas Henry Amos, former Hinsonville residents. She is a lifetime member of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, where she serves on the Executive Council.
