The Music of Nathaniel Dett: Presented and Performed by Clipper Erickson

Wed, Feb 07, 2018 | 12:00 pm

Clipper Erickson, Temple faculty member and gifted pianist, will present and perform the music of classical composer Nathaniel Dett (1882-1943). Dett was the first graduate of African heritage to receive a degree from Oberlin College, where he studied both piano and composition; he continued his studies at the Eastman School of Music. Possessing a literary side in addition to a musical one, he wrote in favor of the use of African American folk music as a basis for serious artistic composition. His legacy primarily rests in his music for the piano and in the field of choral music.

Light refreshments served. Boyer recital credit given.
