4th Annual Jazz Appreciation Month Event Featuring the Robert "Bootsie" Barnes Quartet

Wed, Apr 19, 2017 | 2:00 pm

Celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month at the Blockson Collection. Each April, we honor the extraordinary heritage and history of America’s art form: jazz. Join us for a blues and jazz concert featuring Robert "Bootsie" Barnes, a fixture in the Philadelphia jazz scene. Premier jazz saxophonist Bootsie Barnes worked with many prominent jazz musicians including Lee Morgan and Al Grey. He has performed and/or recorded with many of the great jazz organists, like Richard "Rick" Waters, Herb Nix, Baby Joe Johnson, Larry Labes, Bill Walker, Bill Doggett, Milt Buckner, Shirley Scott, Don Patterson, Richard Groove Holmes, Jimmy McGriff, Jack McDuff, Charles Earland, Trudy Pitts, Poppa John, Joey DeFrancesco, and Jimmy Smith.

This program is part of the Libraries' Beyond the Page public programming series.
