Thu, Oct 06, 2016 | 2:00 pm

An opening celebration of Lord I'm Moving On, an exhibition utilizing rare and unique materials from the Charles L. Blockson Afro-American Collection to tell the story of the Great Migration, with a special emphasis on Philadelphia.

The opening will also include a screening of The Great Migration: A City Transformed (1916–1930). For this series of short films, renowned commissioned media artists worked with Philadelphia community organizations to capture and interpret the stories of the organizations and the individuals that were affected by the events of the Great Migration. Films include: Standing at the Scratch Line (dir. Julie Dash, experimental, 2016, 10 min.), Eason (dir. Kevin Jerome Everson, experimental, 2016, 15 min.), and When We Came Up Here (dir. Tina Morton, documentary, 2016, 12 min.).

Overall partners: Philadelphia Jazz Project, Ars Nova Workshop, Boyer College of Music and Dance, special thanks to Terell Stafford, director of jazz studies and chair of instrumental studies at Boyer.

This program is part of the Libraries' Beyond the Page public programming series.
