Biographical Note

Arthur Langley Searles

Arthur Langley Searles (1920–2009) was the editor and publisher of Fantasy Commentator, which he issued from 1943 to 1953, and from 1978 to 2004.  A posthumous issue was edited and released by M. Alice Becker Searles in Spring 2011: the “Sam Moskowitz and A. Langley Searles Memorial Issue.”

Henry S. Whitehead

Henry St. Clair Whitehead (1882-1932) was archdeacon and rector in the Episcopal Church, and an American writer of horror fiction and fantasy. His stories appeared in Weird Tales and other pulp magazines. Whitehead was also a friend and correspondent of H. P. Lovecraft.

Description of Collection

This collection consists of Arthur Langley Searles’ files relating to author Henry S. Whitehead.  Searles’ article “Fantasy and Outre Themes in the Short Fiction of Edward L. White and Henry S. Whitehead” resulted from his research on Whitehead. Included in the files are reproductions of Henry Whitehead’s unpublished letters and documents regarding his education.
