Historical Note

The Committee of Seventy was founded on December 7, 1904. The organization's goals are to prevent election fraud, improve municipal government, and to educate the public in civic and political matters. The organization actively participates in elections, registrations, the State Legislature as it affects Philadelphia, city finances, civil service, taxation, housing, and the city charter.

Description of Collection

Includes primarily photographs of meetings, luncheons, Election Day activities by members, and voting machines. Photographers include Fabian Bachrach, Morton C. Bond, Brunel Studio, Ed Eckstein, Charles B. Ford, Gondy, Sam Miller, and Jules Schick. Many of the photographs in this collection are undated. Most images are uncaptioned.
