Biographical Note
Eliza Butler Kirkbride (1836-1922) was active in educational and social welfare organizations. Her husband, Thomas Story Kirkbride, was director of the Department of Mental Diseases at Pennsylvania Hospital from 1840 until his death about 1878. An elementary school at 7th and Dickinson Streets in South Philadelphia is named after Mrs. Kirkbride.
Description of Collection
This collection of papers includes Kirkbride's diaries (1862-1863, 1899, 1903), a personal ledger (1866-1867), and a notebook (1889-1892).
