Historical Note
The Yiddish language book, Fuftsig yohr geshikh e fun Idishen leben in Filadelfya or Fifty Years of Jewish Life in Philadelphia, written by Moses Freeman, details his eyewitness account of the East European Jewish immigrant experience in Philadelphia in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The book was published in two volumes: volume 1, published in 1929, covers the period 1879 through 1929; volume 2, published in 1934, covers 1929 through 1934.
 
Description of Collection 
Fifty Years of Jewish Life in Philadelphia Translation Manuscripts consist of two sets of translations for volume 1, 1879-1929. One translation was completed by Maxwell Scarf in 1984, and consists of chapters 1, 2, 7-11, 13 and 14. The second translation, completed by Julian L. Greifer is undated and includes the entire text of volume 1 as well as the table of contents. For volume 2, 1929–1934, there are translations for chapters 8, 12, 13, 15, and 18 of the 19 total chapters and the table of contents, all completed by Maxwell Scarf.
