Biographical Note
John Cholerton was a photographer for the Pennsylvania Railroad from 1917-1944. Cholerton took more than 100,000 photographs of events, scenes, and equipment on the Reading system and the Pennsylvania Reading sea shorelines.
Description of Collection
The collection features Cholerton's recreational interests in the photography of Philadelphia bridges, buildings, statues, and scenes from the period 1923-1941. Subjects photographed include the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Benjamin Franklin Bridge, the Sesquicentennial International Exposition of 1926, Manayunk section of Philadelphia, and the Valley Green section of Fairmount Park.
