Detailed Collection Information
Historical Note
The Learning Centers Project was founded by educator Lore Rasmussen in 1963. A math program that she developed at Miquon School was so successful that she began working with the Philadelphia Board of Education and the School District of Philadelphia. She quit Miquon and started her first Learning Center at Frederick Douglass Elementary School in order to work with a population she felt was most at risk. After the success at Douglass, she founded her program at six more schools in Philadelphia. The Philadelphia School District used this method for many years.
