Detailed Collection Information
Description of Collection
The Marvin Verman Papers contain meeting minutes, correspondence, financial records, photographs, and newspaper clippings documenting the activities of the Philadelphia Volunteers for Israel, from its inception in 1967 until it ceased operation in 1994, and correspondence, newsletters, and photographs from the Israel Aliyah Council of the Delaware Valley’s annual L’Hitraot celebration. The bulk of the collection consists of records related to Verman’s activities on the Soviet Jewry Council of Philadelphia’s Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC). Records include meeting minutes, correspondence, and a handbook for committee members; reference materials and visitor’s guides for those traveling to the Soviet Union; and trip reports from various individuals detailing their first-hand experiences visiting the USSR and their interactions with Refuseniks and Prisoners of Conscience throughout the 1980s.
