The collection consists of a single volume compiled by General Insurance Agent, Marx S. Mayer whose office was located at 419 Walnut Street. The ledger records terms and conditions of insurance policies, names of the insured, and premiums underwritten by various companies including the United Fireman's Insurance Company, American Fire Insurance Company, Royal Insurance Company of Liverpool and many others. Policies issued to Philadelphia area residents and businesses primarily covering merchandise or stock including but not limited to clothing, tobacco, and other goods. There is an alphabetical index of names and businesses in the front of the ledger.
