Description of Collection

The Nochem S. Winnet Papers consist of approximately 500 speeches Winnet gave during his career and reflect organizations he was associated with, including the Crime Prevention Association of Philadelphia, the Federation of Jewish Agencies of Greater Philadelphia, and institutions funded by the Samuel S. Fels Fund. Speech topics include crime prevention, juvenile delinquency and the juvenile court system, child welfare, Jewish life and culture, housing and rent control, the Philadelphia legal community, and police work. Later speeches include eulogies, building dedications, tributes, and honorary award presentations. A few speeches are authored by associates of Winnet. A small number of articles authored by Winnet and press releases are interfiled among the speeches. Also included in the collection is an unpublished typescript on juvenile delinquency titled "Children in Trouble;" correspondence regarding Winnet’s autobiography Vignettes of a Lucky Life; newspaper clippings; photographs, and a file on Winnet’s estate.
