Historical Note

The Old Ladies’ Home of Philadelphia was located in the former mansion of Matthias W. Baldwin, at Comly St. and State Rd. It was founded as a non-denominational home for older women. 

Description of Collection

This collection consists of two volumes recording bonds transferring residents’ property to the Old Ladies’ Home, and personal information about each resident.

Acquisition Information

This collection was transferred to the Urban Archives from the Special Collections Department. The materials were originally donated by Dr. Jacob Gruber, Temple Anthropology Department, and had been part of the Teeters Temple Sociology Collection. 

Processing Information

Finding aid revised according to contemporary archival standards in June 2015.
