Historical Note 
The Philadelphia-Camden Social Service Exchange was a private coordinating and registration center for social service organizations. The Exchange kept records of referrals and services performed by social workers, counselors, settlement houses and other agencies. It was founded as the Registration Bureau of Philadelphia, incorporated as the Philadelphia-Camden Social Service Exchange in 1921, and disbanded in 1970.
 
Description of Collection 
Collection contains meeting records, correspondence, lectures and papers, financial records, subject files, and publications of the Philadelphia-Camden Social Service Exchange, as well as records related to social exchanges in other regions.
 
Organization and Arrangement 
 
The collection is arranged into 6 series as follows:
 
 
Series 1, Administrative, includes Board of Directors minutes, annual reports, committee minutes, annual meetings, publications, and other records.
 
Series 2, Financial Records, includes Finance Committee records, budgets, financial statements, and United Fund reports.
 
Series 3, United Fund of the Philadelphia Area, contains Agency Operation Departments and other records.
 
Series 4, Social Service Exchanges in Other Cities, includes correspondence with other exchanges.
 
Series 5, Other Organizations, includes correspondence with other social work and counseling agencies, community chests, Health and Welfare Council of Philadelphia, government agencies, and records of the Newtown (Bucks County) Conference.
 
Series 6, Subject File, contains papers, reports, studies, and articles.

Collection is open for research. The Exchange has also deposited with the Special Collections Research Center approximately two million case record cards which are available only through special arrangement.
