Detailed Collection Information

Historical Note

The Richmond Soup Society was founded be Millimento W. Ketchum’s father-in-law, Captain Andrew Ketchum, in 1872. Millimento Ketchum, known also as "Mother" Ketchum, the "Angel of Kensington," and "The Santa Claus Lady," moved the Society into her home in 1916 and founded the Kensington Neighborhood House, running the organizations until her death in 1941.

Description of Collection

Collection includes 72 photographs, mostly mounted, depicting the distribution of clothing, food, and Christmas baskets by the organization. Many of the photographs include Mrs. Millimento W. Ketchum. Almost all photographic work was done by Dan E. Paul, 2141 N. Second Street, Philadelphia with one print attributed to Paul Menzen Studios in Philadelphia and another to Everett L. Brooks, Maces Pier, Anglesea, New Jersey.
