Detailed Collection Information

Historical Note

Theater Guild on the Air opened as a Sunday feature on ABC for United States Steel on September 9, 1945.  It was the radio arm of the Theatre Guild, a small production company originally formed by theater people just after World War I. Theatre Guild on the Air was a showcase for stars as well as directors and authors.  It did for Broadway what Lux had done for films.  Most of the radio plays were drawn directly from the stage.

Description of Collection

Radio scripts for Terence Rattigan's The Winslow boy and Robert Louis Stevenson's Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, both adapted for radio by Leslie Reade.  Collection includes two drafts of each script, including the final broadcast version, presented by the United States Steel Corporation in the radio drama series, Theater Guild on the Air.
