Historical Note

The Hebrew Literature Society was founded in 1885 as a cultural center for English- and Yiddish-speaking Jewish people in Philadelphia. The Society maintained a library in its building, and held lectures and concerts.

Description of Collection

Scrapbook of newspaper clippings from English and Yiddish language newspapers regarding the Hebrew Literature Society's campaign to raise funding to renovate their building at 310-312 Catherine Street in Philadelphia and to expand their library.
