Historical Note
The Philadelphia Association of Day Nurseries was a coordinating agency composed of day nurseries committed to the care of children and to providing constructive services to families. It was founded in 1898 by members of the Germantown Day Nursery, Kensington Day Nursery, Jewish Day Nursery, Baldwin Day Nursery, Jane D. Kent Day Nursery, Willing Day Nursery, and Northern Day Nursery. Membership was open to any day nursery in the Philadelphia area.
The Philadelphia Association of Day Nurseries affiliated with the Children’s Department of the Council of Social Agencies in 1928, later the Health and Welfare Council of Philadelphia. The Philadelphia Association for Day Nurseries was active well into the 1950s and officially ceased operations in 1971.
