Alumni Services

Alumni may access any Temple Libraries facility except the Law Library during open hours of operation. You will need an Alumni Card to show to the door guard at the Charles Library.

Borrowing books and DVDs

The Alumni Card doubles as your library card and enables you to borrow ten books/dvds for a four-week period (DVDs circulate for one week, with a  2 one week renewals).

Access to computing and library databases

Use Library Search to locate books, journals, and other content available through Temple University Libraries.

Owing to license restrictions, alumni may only use the Temple University Library databases (e.g., EBSCO, Historical New York Times, Project Muse, JSTOR, etc.) in the libraries, and not off-site.

Alumni must first acquire an Alumni Card to utilize Library Privileges by contacting the Alumni Office directly at alumni@temple.edu or 215-204-7521. After acquiring Alumni Card, you may register to use a desktop computer in Charles Library at the One Stop Assistance Desk. At the guest computers, alumni can use a computer for a maximum of two hours per day. Access to courtesy printing is available. See staff at the Ambler and Ginsburg library service desks regarding computer use.

Alumni who bring their own wireless-equipped computing device to the libraries can access the guest network in order to connect to Library Search and databases with no time limit restrictions.

Interlibrary loan

Due to heavy demand for interlibrary loan services from current students and faculty, we are unable to extend access to ILLiad and E-ZBorrow to our alumni. We recommend that those in need of interlibrary loan services seek them out at any local community library. All public libraries have the capacity to receive materials from other libraries via interlibrary loan.

Consult with a librarian

We encourage our alumni to take advantage of our reference librarians' expertise. See List of Subject Specialists to contact a librarian.

Accessing archives

Alumni can use archives housed in the Special Collections Research Center. Highlights include the university archives, home to yearbooks and historical photographs, and the Urban Archives, which document the social, economic, and physical development of the Philadelphia area from the mid-19th century to the present.

For more information, contact SCRC at (215) 204-8257 or email.

Alumni who want to read about recent developments at Temple University Libraries may request a subscription to Speaking Volumes, the newsletter for friends of the Libraries. Please send a request to Dwash@Temple.edu.
