Schedule Library Instruction

Faculty can request library instruction sessions for their courses. Most classes are held in the library, but presentations can be done in almost any location. Instructors must plan to attend the session with their students.

We also offer class instruction sessions in the Specials Collections Research Center (SCRC) in order to introduce students to rare books, archives, manuscripts, and other media — such as photographs, film and digital media — that include content related to their coursework and research projects. Information about our collections, and possibilities for session or assignment topics, can be found by reading more about our collecting areas.

Schedule instruction at Charles Library, Ambler Campus Library, or the Health Sciences Libraries

  1. Submit an online request or contact the library's subject librarian for your department directly. Library instruction sessions should be scheduled at least a full week in advance
  2. Contact the library's subject librarian for your department to discuss what will be covered in the session. Sessions can be tailored to address specific assignments or concerns for your class.

Schedule instruction in the Special Collections Research Center

  1. Fill out the Instruction Session/Visit Request Form, ideally at least two weeks in advance of your planned visit.
  2. We’ll work with you to tailor the instruction session to your course's subject matter and learning objectives.
SCRC staff offer a variety of instruction formats, basic research orientations, and specialized sessions that incorporate course- or assignment-based resources and activities. These sessions are geared toward teaching students how to conduct research using primary sources (primary source literacy), and enhancing their research, critical thinking, and writing skills.

Guides to selected topics and subjects available for research in the Special Collections Research Center can be found on the SCRC Research Guides page. More will be added soon.

In addition to working with students in class sessions, we can place materials on hold in our reading room for student use in course assignments.
